A styling cream with clay in it, which is a useful combination — the cream base spreads and stays workable, and the clay supplies grip and a matte finish. It gives separation and shape without the tackiness of a paste, so it suits short cuts, long layers that need definition, and curls that want holding together rather than setting.

What's in it

• White clay — mineral in origin; provides grip and the matt effect.
• Carnauba wax — from carnauba palm leaves; supplies the hold.

How to use it

Rub a small amount between dry palms until it warms and thins out, then work it into dry hair — through the mid-lengths and ends for texture, or at the root for lift. Add more only if you need it. Restyle later with your fingers; it stays reworkable rather than setting hard.

Worth knowing

75 mL. The hold is natural rather than strong, so it shapes and smooths flyaways instead of locking a style in place. If you want it to hold harder, finish over the top with a hairspray.
